Senator Bernie Sanders has separately called for hitting the pause button on AI development before the risks outrun our ability to manage them.

That kind of bipartisan agreement is rare in Washington right now, and it should tell readers something. When lawmakers who agree on almost nothing else both want a shutoff switch bolted onto these systems, the concern is not partisan theater. It is a shared recognition that private companies are racing ahead of the safety net.
