That’s why standing in the kitchen, confused, sometimes only resolves itself once you retrace your steps to the living room.
None of this means memory is failing you as you age or that something is wrong with your focus. It means your brain is aggressively organizing information, sometimes too aggressively for convenience. Understanding the doorway effect won’t stop it from happening, but it does explain why a five-second walk can cost you a thought you were sure you’d remember.
